Why You Should Join a Choir in the New Year

Who’s ready for the new year? New beginnings, new year resolutions and new hobbies! That’s right, 2020 should be the year that you escape your bubble and find ways in which to enjoy yourself. Having a hobby that you stay dedicated to can help improve your happiness, as well as open yourself up to a lot more socialising possibilities.

You guessed it right! This blog post is going to be dedicated to why joining a choir should be your hobby of choice next year. It might not be the first thing you thought about pursuing, but we guarantee that after reading this blog post, you will find that joining a choir will be more beneficial to you than you may think.

Ditch the Routine

One thing that most of us are guilty of is sticking to the same old daily routine; making our lives mundane and not as exciting as we’d like. It’s great to have a plan of action so that you get all of your chores, jobs and priorities taken care of, but when you ditch the routine and incorporate new things into your schedule, you will soon see a drastic change in your mood and energy levels.

By ditching the routine and joining a choir, not only will this help you to get out of the house, but it will give you the chance to experience new things. Sometimes, especially in the winter, we tend to get couped up at home where there is little conversation except the occasional meow from the cat. This is not healthy; by pushing yourself to start a new hobby, you have something to look forward to, and something that you know is set in stone each week, giving you every reason to leave the house.

Trying Something New

Another thing that we struggle to put in motion is trying new things. We all have our comfort zones, and the thought of pushing ourselves out of these is very daunting, however, by doing so, it opens ourselves up to new possibilities and hidden talents that we were unaware of – or old skills that we are not really utilising.

By trying something new, you’re putting your mind and body to the test which is healthy, too. If a choir is your something new, you may notice that you feel renewed or that you are the next Christina Aguilera; and even if this isn’t the case, you may just have a lot of fun – either way, you have found a new hobby that you can enjoy for your own reasons.

Making Friends

This one may seem like a given, but it’s a great given. If you struggle to make new friends because you have such a tight schedule, join a choir. By joining a choir, you will meet other like-minded people who are all there for the same reason – to sing and have fun. Our choirs have the most friendly, welcoming members in them so there is no need to be nervous about starting conversations because they will most likely say hi to you straight away!

Soon enough, you will be making plans with fellow members outside of your choir sessions. If socialising is something that you lack, even just singing amongst a group of people can help you to counteract the feelings of loneliness, and instead, make you feel comfortable and part of something wonderful.

Mood Booster

While this is definitely the outcome to the above, nonetheless, it is still one of the most important reasons as to why joining a choir can benefit you. Now that we’re in the colder months, and another year has gone by with the blink of an eye, it is only natural to feel a little low; and the worst thing that you can do is feed these feelings because you’ll only find it harder to relinquish them later on.

By joining a choir, your mood will be instantly uplifted. When in a room full of jolly people singing happy songs, the last thing on your mind is the unhappiness that can come with life – and this weather. Although at first, you might be sceptical about joining in on the fun, you will soon realise that life is too short, and we all deserve to have a little lighthearted fun… every week in this case!

Are you thinking about joining a choir in 2020 now that you have read this? If you join a choir, it can make changes to your life that you didn’t think was possible. 2020 is the year to make new friends, be a happier version of yourself and try new things… So, why not start by joining a choir?
