5 Reasons to join Cheshire Pop Choir

Joining a choir might not be your immediate thought when you’re looking to start-up a new hobby; a room full of strangers singing songs that you don’t even know? Not sure if that sounds appealing? Well, we make it fun!

There may be other choirs that don’t share the same ethos and connection as our choirs, but that’s what makes Cheshire Pop Choir so unique. To join one of our choirs means to belong, and for us, that goes way beyond singing songs with strangers. If you’re considering joining a choir, we recommend that you make it a Cheshire Pop Choir – we are always open to branching out to the surrounding towns if we do not cover your area already.

Why do we recommend our choirs, you ask? Read this blog post, and we will give you five reasons as to why you should join a Cheshire Pop Choir; if we haven’t already convinced you, you’ll just have to pop in for a £5 taster session!

  1. A Sense of Belonging

Like previously mentioned, our choirs can give you a great sense of belonging. As we are open to all ages from 16+, nearly everybody can get involved, and as we’re all such a friendly bunch of people, you’ll want to get involved, too. Being in one of our choirs automatically makes you part of our team.

We get everybody involved, we push people out of their comfort zones, and we create bonds with each other that produce friendships like no other. This may all sound a little scary, but we don’t force our members to do anything that they don’t want to do; instead, they get a taste of our little community, and most of them want to push themselves, get involved and make friends.

Some people struggle with the feeling of belonging; whether that’s because they struggle with mental health issues or because they simply do not have the confidence to easily befriend others. The good thing about our choirs is that when we sing, we’re all in it together, nobody is pointed at or looked at, we’re all enjoying the music together.

This, instantly makes you feel as though you belong. As our other members are so passionate and friendly, you are encouraged to get chatting between songs or at the start and finish. You can form new friendships without going through the awkward “what do I say?” period.

  1. Gain Confidence

With Cheshire Pop Choirs, you will gain confidence that you didn’t even know you could have. From walking into the room to saying hi to everybody and singing songs that you may not know – and with a group of people who you may never have seen before, this is excellent way to boost your confidence.

From singing in a choir and getting support and instruction from your teacher, you might find that your voice is even better than you thought. Being surrounded by enthusiastic singers who are cheering you on and appreciating the uniqueness of your voice can really help you to feel proud of your talent and ready to share it with the world. Another way you can improve your confidence is through making friends; again, as we’re all such a friendly bunch, we won’t make this a task for you. At the end of the day, we were in the same shoes as you to begin with!

Lastly, we can’t forget to mention that we also sing in live performances! As a very unique type of entertainment, we are often out raising money for charity (we performed at Manchester Marathon to keep the runners motivated) and sometimes even hired out for events like weddings and parties! Whether they are public or private events, this will definitely help you overcome your fear of being on stage. We won’t throw you in at the deep end if you don’t want to perform in front of a crowd, but eventually, you may surprise yourself in that you actually want to join the rest of the members on stage. It is amazing fun!

  1. We’re Northern/Neighbours

Now some may say that being friendly stems from the fact that we are based in the North. After all, stereotypes state that being Northern automatically makes us very outgoing souls that like everybody to feel included. Now we aren’t sure if it really is a Northern thing or if it’s just our lovely choirs, but it really is true!

As we are split into local choirs based in the Northwich, Nantwich, Congleton and Lymm areas, our groups are made up of people who all live close together. This makes it even easier to find people who you have things in common with – your child may go to the same school as another member, or you both could love that local coffee shop. Being local brings us all closer together and helps to form the close-knit, friendly choir that we are. So, there is no need to worry when you join a Cheshire Pop Choir; like you, we will be having giggles and ultimately, just enjoying ourselves.

  1. We Sing Songs You’ll Actually Like

We don’t like to blow our own trumpet, but we actually take into consideration what our members WANT to sing. It comes as no surprise that a lot of choirs will have a very strict set list of songs that they must stick to – especially if they are a very formal choir. Well, we’re the opposite… Got a song request? Just let us know!

In the past, we have sung a very wide mixture of songs such as The Lion King soundtrack, Run by Snow Patrol and Purple Rain – all great songs from a mixture of contemporary and classics and an array of genres. When you join us at one of our Pop Choirs, the songs will get stuck in your head! We don’t go for boring or bland – we go for memorable and beautiful!

  1. A Change of Scenery

This is a huge reason to join our choirs. Sometimes, life can become very hectic or in some cases, not hectic enough, and do you know the answer to both? Joining one of our Pop Choirs. This may seem like it won’t have an effect on your life when actually, it gives you a reason to take a breather from your busy schedule, or get out of the house!

It’s so easy not to take time for yourself when you have a family, a job, housework and the rest of the tasks that take up your day-to-day life, but by not doing so, you can quickly burn out or worse, become a bit down and unexcited about your life. Establishing a new hobby will allow you to take a break from your everyday routine – it may only be an hour and a half a week, but that hour and a half is all yours.

Opposingly, if you spend most of your time stuck indoors without any human contact, it can become very unbearable and lonely. Join one of our Pop Choirs and not only will you be leaving the house, but you will be meeting new people; people that may become very close friends of yours in the long run.
Have any of these five reasons convinced you to join one of our Pop Choirs?

If you’d like more information on our choirs, check out our website. You will also find our contact details on there, too. There are many reasons as to why you should join one of our choirs, but the only way you will find them out for yourself is by joining us one evening!

We hope to see you soon.
